Actor Darpan Shrivastava who has always been type-cast for his negative portrayals on television is excited, for he sees his role in Zee TV’s newest offering Jamai Raja to be different when compared to his earlier works on TV.

In Jamai Raja, the actor plays the light-hearted character of Kesar Patel, the chacha of the lead protagonist Roshni, essayed by Nia Sharma.
Talking about his character, Darpan remarks, “This role comes as a welcome change to the negative roles that I have earlier carried out. I have always been offered roles of uncles or fathers, who have traumatized their nieces or daughters (smiles). The role of Kesar chacha is very different. The man brings a smile on audience’s faces whenever he comes on screen. His chemistry with his wife Resham, essayed by Delnaaz Irani has been loved to the hilt.”

Also, according to Darpan, what makes Jamai Raja strikingly different from the rest of the TV shows of today is that it is a male-oriented subject. “There is nothing major that a male can do in the soaps of TV in today’s time. Every other concept that comes out is a predominant female-oriented concept, but Jamai Raja does not fall into that category. The beginning has been good for the show, and we aim to do better and better as there is a long way to go.”

Darpan has essayed challenging roles in shows like Baba Aiso Varr Dhundo, Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Bhagyavidhaata, Lapataganj, Havan, Afsar Bitiya, Do Dil Ek Jaan. And with a working experience of 22 years, he knows his craft well.

The ensemble cast of Jamai Raja has quite a lot of talented actors. And for Darpan, working with them is a privilege. “I have never worked with Achint (Kaur), Delnaaz (Irani) and Aparaji (Mehta) before. But I must tell you, they are a bundle of talent and make the atmosphere on the sets very enjoyable. Ravi (Dubey) is a sweet heart, and so is Nia (Sharma).”

Talking about the jolly time the cast have on the sets, Darpan explains, “The camaraderie between actors in the Jamai Raja team is brilliant. Ever since our shoot started, all the actors join together to have lunch. There has not been a single day when we have missed out on gathering for lunch. In fact, we discuss and chalk our food menu on the previous day. So we exactly know who is bringing what (smiles).”

On his on-screen chemistry with Delnaaz he avers, “Delnaaz is a wonderful actress, and since she is from a theatre background, she has a very good screen presence. And whenever we have scenes together, it is easier for us to improvise and make the shot really interesting.”

Darpan in addition to essaying the important character in Jamai Raja will be seen in 4 Lions Films’ upcoming Sony TV show, Humsafars wherein he will play father to the female lead, played by newbie Shivya Pathania.

We wish you all the luck!!
